The importance of creating a clear and precise legal framework for protecting clinical data package generated in the process of developing new drugs has long been discussed. However, so far, such protection has not been implemented for drugs for human use in Brazil. In this study, Interfarma shows how legal protection of technical data, for a specified period, can encourage investments in research and development for new drugs and contribute as a powerful mechanism for inducing economic growth in the Brazilian pharmaceutical industry.
